Okay, wait! I think I take offense on this. And THAT is the reason I stopped coming in here ;).
First. Let me say I'm white, 37, and middle class, AND happen to be from the South. I have a child who will be voting in this election, so the family has been watching it closely. I don't care about the "history" being made. That has no appeal to me. What does is the candidates.
What you're implying here is that ALL of America is racist. I beg to differ!
I LOVE that there is a black man who's running and stands a GOOD chance of winning the nomination of MY party. I love that he is an educated man who knows how to speak, think, and act.
I sympathize with the black people in this country. I think they didn't get a fair shake and agree something should be down to fix it.
BUT, here's what I don't agree with. I am not a racist, never believe in that because God doesn't look at the color of our skin He looks at the heart. Just because I'm from the South people like to assume I'm some backwoods country bumpkin without a thought of her own rolling around in her head.
So if there IS racism in this country it isn't just about color any more. It's about class, race, creed, weight, and, sexual orientation. It's NOT just about one set of people any more. And to think that it is makes you one of the racist. Sorry but that's the way I think.
I happen to agree with Reverend Wright. I think America has been damned. But it's been done by US! Not just the government but by everyone who has lived in this country for the last 50 years. Or more!
You know why? Because we're blind and stupid to the things going on in the world.
It's so much easier to turn a blind eye to the homeless, the abused, the neglected, and to the elders of this country than it is to do something about it!
We would rather throw up our hands and say we're too dumb to fix what's wrong with this country. Ya'll were the ones who screwed it up, fix it! (Talking about people in government, no anyone in particular.)
It hasn't only been blacks that have been made an issue in this country. And we NEED to start remembering that!

'Trying to denigrate Obama, GOP Rep. Geoff [Jeff] Davis says of Obama: 'That boy's finger does not need to be on the button.'
I'm glad your not a racist, Lori, but America, in general, is a racist nation. My god, America was built on slavery.
Walk in any [white]church in America today and see how many blacks there are. "Sadly Sunday morning is the most segregated hour in the US." -- Barack Obama
I have lived in the south, too, and racism is still very much alive and well. Just a note. Before the Civil War there were more slaves in the north than south. Lincoln never intended on freeing the slaves.
Martin was killed by our racist government.
There has been improvement in race relations--but racism is still smoldering beneath the surface.
And it may be true, as according to some scientists, that racism is genetic in origin.
As you say there is elitism among people based on race, ethnicity, social standing, wealth, etc. Seems the human race is bent of hating everyone--including itself....
