AE, we find toys slow things down. They make it more fun, but we don't have time for anything but fulfilling our most basic needs.

I know the feeling.
Our kids bed time has reached to point where it is seriously making things even worse. By the time we've got the eldest off to bed, then had a short relax together its too late even for MrsAE to be in the mood for a quicky most of the time.

I assume the eldest can entertain himself for half an hour, though. Send him to read in his room or something!

Our problem is that the baby doesn't stay asleep if I put her down. I can get some sleep with her laying across me. But that doesn't really allow for me to do anything else. This has only been the case for about a month, and I understand this is a normal stage. But I hope it finishes fast! It's no fun!

Getting the kids to stay put is easy, just use one of the plethora of electronic nannies the house is full of (computers, PS, Wii, DS, TV, DVD, phones... they all work), hell the eldest would stay with his head in a book all day once you've pulled it out of Skyrim.

So yes, but its just a habit thing.

I guess like many couples we've got into the habit of amking love at bedtime. I'd adore to have sex at any time but her Ladyship doesn't seem to get into the mood too easily at other times. Its stupid really. I mostly work from home these days and when she's working she's helping run my company - again at home. So it would be easy for us to find time when the kids are out at school. But when I've tried it hasn't been a great success. Typically her mind is on all the other things that need doing.

When the kids are up, even if occupied then she also finds it hard to relax. Ideally an hour or so after they've gone to bed.

There is something really comforting about about making love at bed time and cuddling together and falling asleep in each others arms in the wet patch :-)

But sex is best when you're both wide awake

They grow out of all these phases - you just have to wait patiently.

My 51 year old son is now quite fit to live with; I'm still not sure about the 49 year old though ...

I know this story is a little out of context with the topic, but I once bought a bottle of baby oil at a supermarket, plus a pack of condoms (different sessions) The very attractive cashier actually asked me "do you have a Fly Buys Card?" I muttered "none of your business" because I thought she was asking something else lol

As a new parent myself, I'm learning some of the tricks. Sometimes warm milk just before she goes to bed may slow her down a bit. There's the perennial favourite, take them for a drive (not recommended to make a habit of it) or wear her out as much as possible during the day. My son is 6 weeks old, and to wear him out, we put him on his belly, encouraging him to crawl (he can already hold his head up without help) If you drain her of as much energy as possible, she may give you more hours of sleep

Breast feeding is the answer. Give the mother a stiff gin half an hour before feeding and the baby sleeps like a log for some hours.

Only one downside to that; said child will either be a raging, Oscar Wilde-type alcoholic as an adult, or have his/her intellect blunted by killing off too many infant brain cells
