Sextified,
We all share one big family bed. But it helps for my husband to have another bed where he can close the door, so he can sleep any time he wants to. I'm the one who gets stuck waiting up with the kid until he is ready to sleep. But the kid won't accept my husband taking my place.
The new house has the master bedroom upstairs, and the kid's room on the other side, with a bathroom in the middle.
We are estimating that as I get further into pregnancy, it will be useful for me to lay in the kid's bed with him and try to get him to fall asleep there. Usually he falls asleep on the couch and I carry him to the big bed, but I won't be able to do that much longer. If we can put cartoons on in his room, he and I will probably end up sleeping there. If that doesn't work and he still sleeps on the couch, at some point I am going to just have to leave him there and go sleep on the futon in my husband's office. Then I can hear him if he wakes up, and try to get him back to sleep quickly.
As for the new arrival, I expect for at least the first few months that I will just wear him in a sling as if he is still a part of me. So he will go wherever I go.
