We've talked about something like this in the past, but this is a little different.

I had a very nice comment from a new fan and I clicked on their profile to check them out. Then I checked my votes afterwards and saw that they had indeed voted me a '10' that I was very grateful for.

When I went to work I sent them a thank you note and didn't think anything of it. But later on that night I noticed the vote was removed from my stats.

Their profile still exists so I know they are still on the site. Art mentioned that sometimes people delete their profiles and make new ones, causing a vote to disappear.

Any other authors out there notice this going on? Web glitch? I just needed one more vote for the archives if it had stayed, and I always keep a very close eye on things until its safely in.

Interesting question.

I have cancelled user accounts in the past, and thus all votes attached to it dissappear, as you have already noted.

On one occasion I voted on a story, although I didn't realize it, I was a bit hard on the author. I cast my vote before I had really got many of my own, thus somewhat naive about the whole process. After reading some positive feedback that I had received , and seeing the excellent votes that had been cast for my own story, I felt guilty about the vote in question. Knowing that the story in question was as good, if not better than, anything I had wrote, I asked Art if there was a way that I could adjust my vote. There wasn't, but he could, and did as requested and changed my vote.

But in your case, I might think that you are merly a victim of a glitch. I mean who would be upset about an author appreciating their comment and/or vote... I do it all of the time.

cheers,

HG

Art can, and does, unvote when he thinks that someone is trolling, but I had assumed that this was only low votes.

I've actually had several fans say that their web browsers prevented them from voting sometimes. One claims ghat he has never been able to vote. He sends high praise when he comments using ES's system, but always mention his regrets for not being able to vote.

The weird votes, including this last one, showed up. I clicked on their profile and checked out there info and voting histories. Then when I went to comment later, before I replied, it was set to invisible and the vote was gone.

Then for the next 24-48 hours no votes at all. I'm thinking glitch myself.
