How about just a little thing at the beginning asking readers to please notify you of typos they notice? It is difficult to see our own typos.

Not at all, my dear. You are absolutely correct. The admonition we all heard in school was to put the punctuation in before the quotation marks. That is an incorrect oversimplification. In the cases you cite, the comma breaks the larger sentence in which the quotation marks surround either a single word or a fragment. You dun good.

That's a great idea about asking for help before the story.
"Imperfect as I am I will occasionally make mistakes. Please don't hesitate to inform me of any you find. I appreciate your help." Ya think?

AB,

There is a funny book called something like 'The Panda eats, Shoots, and Leaves'.
Obviously it deals with punctuation.

Keep up the learning of English. The easier a story is to read, the more the readers will enjoy it. It shows the readers that you respect them when you make an effort to produce good writing.

I wish you well with your writing. I have read some of your work and I like it.

There's a FaceBook group called:
"Let's eat Grandma." "Let's eat, Grandma." Correct punctuation saves lives.

What is this thing called, love?

Lynne Truss wrote Eats, shoots and leaves, a humorous readable exposition of UK English punctuation.
