Actually, he doesn't know that I read stories. He only discovered the other day that I visited the forum when he asked where I got a particular idea, and doesn't know that I have participated.

HE is definitely a writer, but wouldn't write this kind of thing. He is a very private person. He would probably not like that I have talked about personal things about us.

Yes, that's a great deal. It's like being paid $180 x infinity for just one story.

Maybe in the future. I've been reading for a lot of years, and never felt like writing.

Writing was always my least favorite part of school.

You make it sound so easy! I have a story floating around in my pea brain and can't seem to get it out into words but you make it sound so simple! Send me an ES mail and give me a hand won't you?

Girlie1980,

I used to write, a lot, right up until I was midway thru highschool. Then a lot of things happened in my life, that I won't go into here, and it seemed to shut that outlet down forever.

Part of the side effects of writing, especially about personal things, is that it forces you to confront what's upsetting you.

If you are in a situation that is unchangeable, or your unwilling to risk the consequences of attempting to change, then writing is the last thing you want to do.

That's one reason therapists are always so keen on people, who need help, writing in private journals.

About two years ago I was going thru a very rough patch, and I decided, after more than twenty years of nothing, to write about it.

Or better yet, something that would express my feelings, but not be about me, or the people who had been in my life back then.

I wrote seven well received chapters over at Literotica, and got in a funk again, and had to stop. After a break, I rewrote the first bits and reposted them here. I've been writing ever since.

[20 chapters and 320,000 words in Book I . . . and 7 chapters and 170,000 words so far for Book II]

Yeah . . . why I am still going . . . I have no idea. Mainly just to see if I can finish it in a way I'll be proud of.

But ignoring my obvious extreme obsession; Writing, even a little bit can be very helpful.

Would you mind answering a question?

Do you feel that your husband would be upset if he knew you were reading erotica? It always fascinates me how the subject of porn divides couples. My own on again/off again girlfriend of eight years abhors it. So did my one Exwife twenty plus years ago.

Does your husband watch or read porn . . . or would you even know? Would it upset you if he did? So far, from your comments elsewhere, you seem to have a very admirable and respectful relationship. Of the kind I am still stubbornly holding out for.

My close female friend, who just moved very far away, whom I not so jokingly refer to as my 'Inspiration', loved the stuff. We liked the same sites, found places for the other to go, and loved to flirt outrageously with each other.

[ Miss you, Dammit! ]

One thing to seriously consider, especially if this stuff is still all pretty new to you:

Eventually the satisfaction of random porn fades away. Or at least it should. How you, and your spouse, react to it at that point is VERY important! That messes up more people and relationships than just about damn near anything else.

In my case, I pretty much exhausted the sources of the kinds of stories I personally wanted to read.

So after about a year of looking for new avenues that covered a wide range of subjects . . . respectfully . . . and with some quality . . . I gave up.

I couldn't find what I wanted to read . . . even here on this fine website . . . so I decided to try and write it myself.

Lee_R can tell you . . . the whole story is a lot to absorb and take in . . . but it has a small but dedicated following.

So Girlie, no pressure from me about writing anymore. But it is something to consider, and often helps the writers as much as the readers.

It certainly has slowly helped pull me out of an emotional hole that threatened to swallow me up.

Now if I can just save up enough money for plane tickets, I'll go visit my friend, when she's going stir crazy in the middle of winter this year!

Girlie,

In school I was like you. English and Composition were detested subjects. In high school, I don't think I could get anything higher than a D in writing.

So, fast forward to working. What do I do as part of my job? Technical writing! I always saw myself with no imagination for creative writing but learned to do the direction type writing decently.

About 14 years ago, when I was starting to get back out into the world after a divorce, a woman challenged me to write an erotic story. I thought about it, came up with, what I thought was a novel idea and wrote it up. It was well recieved. I found this site back then and posted it and the scores weren't bad. I wrote a few more stories that were generated by conversations with different people and posted them as well. At one point, I pulled all the stories to redo them and then, horror or horrors, suffered a hard drive crash and they all went poof! Well, eventually, I wrote new stories, found some of my old ones that friends had saved and were kind enough to send to me and then rewrote that first story. Unfortunately, even with posting it twice, it didn't get enough votes and reads to remain and Art chopped it.

So, if you want to write and have something in mind, real or fiction, give it a try. It might just be a revelation to you and open up a new career for you.

I don't feel like I have anything I need to confront or work through or anything like that. My discomfort with writing is purely based on a very obvious lack of talent and skill.

I know it LOOKS like I am good at writing, but there are different kinds of writing. I used to be good only at one kind. Perfect spelling and grammar. I could easily write the literature essays for school. Comparing and contrasting themes in 2 books, for example. It was very mathematical. But I was bad at writing to either to make my point understood or to have an effect on the reader.

After many years of forum-going, I've gotten better and better at writing to explain what I am trying to say. But I still have no skills when it comes to causing a reaction. I know I can learn. I have learned enough new skills and stretched in such amazing ways that I no longer am foolish enough to believe that there is anything I can't do.

I DO have a bit of motivation pushing me in that direction. I do have something I want to say. A (political) message that can't be received unless an emotional response is triggered. I've made a lot of notes for myself, and started trying to write it as a novel, but I don't yet know how to do what needs to be done. So I've put it on hold. Eventually I will probably seek out other pieces of writing that do similar things and look at how it was done. But I don't know for sure that I ever will.

The reason that I am uncomfortable with writing to cause an effect in the reader is that it feels very coercive to me. It is too much power over another person. As a reader, I know that every time I read something I am offering myself to the writer to be coerced. So I know that if I write something the readers would have consented just by reading, but still I don't see myself as being able to be in the role of coercer. It's just not me. At least not the me that I am now.

----

My husband and I used to read erotic stories together at the beginning of our relationship. At some point he lost interest, and I was still reading them. A few times I tried to share some with him again, but he wasn't interested so I stopped talking to him about them. I've read them off and on for probably close to a decade. Sometimes months in between periods of heavy reading.

I don't think he would be upset, exactly. He doesn't object to the idea of reading stories. I think that perhaps he doesn't think of me as a person who reads stories, and so would feel a big jarred if he knew. I also worry because he goes through periods of feeling very insecure and something like this could be a bit of fuel. Though I guess that when he gets like that he can rationalize pretty much anything into something that feeds his depression, so it probably isn't that big of a deal.

I haven't made any effort to hide it from him. If he looked around on my laptop he would find out where I've read pretty easily.

He does watch porn sometimes. He puts it on for both of us. (But he doesn't generally care if I get to see it or if I am missing it because my face is in his crotch. So I guess it is really for him.)

Would it bother me? That question is very strange to me, because I am not used to having my opinion consulted when it comes to what he does. I don't know if there is anything he could do that would bother me, short of child abuse.

I'm sure Sextified's help will be sufficient, Lee ...

but should you need further assistance then I'd be happy.

We really can't leave stories floating around in your pea brain, it's probably affecting your appreciation of cucumber sandwiches.

Regarding the original question, I figure any story with ten chapters or more is going to ask too much of me. (I think I reached seven or eight once, but some of those should have stood alone.)

I wish the site would add a section for "series stories". In that section, it would help if the whole series became generally available each time a chapter is added.
