I think we have to remember that our writers come from all walks of life and some may not be as academically gifted as others, some may even be IT challenged. Sure one long paragraph can be annoying, but ask yourself this question before you vote.

Is this their first story?

If you answer yes, then there is a good chance that over time they will get enough feedback about their writing skills to fix the problem. although if they have posted more than a dozen stories then maybe you should consider deducting marks.

spell checking is another matter entirely, i have done spell checks only to find errors after i have posted, and i use microsoft word, then there are those people who believe that the only spelling that counts is american spelling.

one wonderful person sent me an e-mail telling me that i had spelt colour wrong seven times, not to mention the other 23 mistakes, so rereading the story i e-mailed them back and asked for all the mistakes.

turned out that because i didn't use US spelling, i lost seven points.

punctuation is my nightmare, because i can read a story numerous times and still find areas that i missed.

As amateur writers we should be looking at the story itself and not trying to be the next times critic, was the story easy to read, did it make sense, was it realistic, did it have the desired effect, and finally was it something that i would recommend to someone else.

If i read a story that meets those criteria then it will normally get a 10, if it is littered with spelling mistakes it will lost one or two marks, if i can't give it more than a six, i won't vote but will send the writer some feedback.

maybe it is just me, but giving a story a score of 1, is just nasty, considering the amount of work that they have put in.

A story has to blow me away to get a 10. I'll admit, I cannot read a story that is one long paragraph. I understand that is a formatting error, but the website shows you your text before you do the final submission. If you see that error, fix it. I take the time to do it, so I don't have sympathy for people that are too lazy to do it. Also, if you insert two spaces between paragraphs when you are writing the story that won't happen.

I got slammed for typo errors for years and now I use the services of one of the many fine volunteer editors out there. I highly recommend it. It's worth the couple days delay in getting your story up.

The problem as I see it, is that a fair number of people are typing with one hand. And even though I'm a bit of a typo-freak, I give lee-way for people who:

1. still write really fuckin' hot stories,
2. obviously have english as a 2nd language.

If there are spelling errors all over the place - enough to spoil the story - then I do the simplest of things... stop reading and find something else! I also do this for the 1-paragraph stories and if there are any major continuity errors - like someone's husband taking a name change halfway through a story (read one of those yesterday, who's this Bill guy then? he was called Jim before...) because it just niggles me and I don't get the same enjoyment from reading.

There are a wealth of great writers on this site who take the time to write well, check and/or have someone else check their work. With thousands of stories to choose from, I see no point in bringing up the failings to the author, since they are doing the same thing as me - enjoying the experience of reading and writing erotica. If I was paying a subscription I might feel like there should be some in-site editing, but as it stands, I'm happy to have found such a good website for this kind of writing, where you get real critique and can write about whatever you want, for free.

I appreciate the gist of your offer, but perhaps you would instill more confidence by beginning your sentences with capital letters, inserting a comma when needed and ending your sentences with periods!
